DIY: Picture frame necklace holder

My first DIY on the blog! So excited! I’m super keen to get into doing these more often cause they’re a lot of fun.

I already have an idea of what my second one will be!

The reason this particular DIY came up was because for a very long time I had been on the hunt for a good necklace holder. I had seen a lot of really ugly ‘tree’ style ones but none of them really stood out to me, so I decided to make my own.

I’m well aware that this isn’t a unique idea but I thought I’d share with you all how I made my particular one. I had seen quite a few that involved chicken wire and all sorts. That wasn’t for me. I like things to be simple and easy!

All you need is:

  • A picture frame – I chose an A4-ish sized one from Typo for $17
  • Some small pins
  • Sheets of cork – I got mine from Look Sharp, 2 sheets for $3

  1. Remove the back of the frame, and discard everything in the frame including the glass.
  2.

  3. Using the image that came within the frame, trim your sheets of cork to the frame size.
  4.

  5. Place the sheets of cork inside the frame and put the back of the frame back in.

I used both pieces to give it more cork padding.

  6.

  7. Pop your pins in where you want them and put them on a bit of an angle.
  8.

  9. Loop your necklaces around the pins. You may find that your necklaces are longer than the frame itself so you can double over (or in some cases even more than that!) your necklaces so that you stagger where the pendants fall.

All done! It literally takes about 5 minutes to make and it’s pretty cheap depending on the frame you get. You can keep adding as many pins as you want and I could even turn mine on it’s side so I can get even more along the top if I wanted to. And you may even want to hang your frame on your wall so it doesn’t take up too much room.

Hope you all enjoyed this DIY! Will have to get my thinking cap on for more DIYs to come!

Side note: How adorable is that little bunny ring holder I got from Glassons? She’s my favourite. I particularly love how my bow necklace makes it look like she’s wearing a bow around her ear hehe. Such a nerd. :P
