So, I’m slow at this blogging thing, right? But that’s okay. There’s apparently such a thing as a slow blogging movement, so let’s just pretend I’m part of that. Hehe. A few months ago I showed ya’ll a sneak peek of my cousin’s 21st birthday party. And now, I have finally gotten around to showing you the rest of it!
Tyler’s party was so much fun! Super glad I got to capture some of it too! I’ve never really taken ‘party’ photos before but absolutely loved it. Tyler’s decorating made it all the more fun – especially those awesome helium balloons! Rosie LOVED those balloons. If she didn’t have one in her hands, she would just stare at them, in awe. So cute!
The lovely Rachael of Made From Scratch made the amazing cake, which sat on that stunning mirrored stand that has been in Tyler’s family (not my side) for over 50 years and it was even used at her Grandfather’s 21st birthday! I made the cupcakes, and helped Tyler set up her dessert table and backdrop. The ‘drunk’ and ‘sober’ punch dispensers were supplied by Shaye of On My Hand. Those punches? SO GOOD. I drunk from both. Taking turns. Haha.
The highlight of the night for me was Tyler and I dancing with our grandparents at midnight. It was one of those memories I will never forget and I’m so thankful that we got to share that moment.
Awesome music. Awesome food. Awesome party. Awesome memories. <3
I should be packing right now. But I can’t be bothered just yet. :P We are heading to Tauranga for a few days for a shoot. Can’t wait to see the family again! I love that I am going to be able to visit them more often now that I’m self-employed and we can take our work with us.
Anyway, that’s going a little off topic… I was curious, what do you like to see most on my blog? Should I bring back my weekly links posts? Any suggestions or requests? I’m a little undecided at the moment as to what I want to be posting. I may just do life documenting posts, but who knows! Would love your feedback!
So, it’s been less than a week into this self-employment future of mine, and I must say, it’s been wonderful. I kicked it off with a beautiful wedding (above image is from their awesome day), did two days of contract design work, and now I’m on my second day at home. I’ve been doing a mixture of wedding work, emailing, admin, helping Hook on a random project, thinking about how on earth I’m going to survive doing this diet, and relaxing.
I’m still working on my daily routine, which I think I will do a post about once I have it locked down. It involves a lot of pill taking, coconut oil, and I’m hoping it will include a lot of outdoor time too!
I also can’t wait to get back into this blogging thing. I really miss it. And I have a million photos from certain adventures to show you too. Now that I have more time, I intend to show them to you all! In the mean time, you might want to check out our A Couple Of Night Owls Facebook page to see some of our recent weddings and such. We’ve got a Summer full of weddings and other fun things coming up, which I can’t wait to get right into! :)
So. You guys. I did it. I made the jump. I handed in my letter of resignation at my full time job. In two weeks I will officially become a full-time, self-employed Night Owl! Ahhhhhh!
It’s quite terrifying. But also crazy exciting! I don’t know what I’m going to do with myself. Actually, I do. I’m going to be sleeping more (as in sleeping a proper amount instead of the lack of sleep I currently get), taking care of myself, relaxing, eating properly, working on our business, learning more, and of course, shooting weddings!
This decision came sooner than I thought it would, and it kind of was a split decision made over a weekend. The reason for it is, not surprisingly, my health. One of my health problems, that has plagued me since I was a teenager, is made extremely worse with stress you see. And for well over a year I had been juggling a full-time graphic design job, our A Couple Of Night Owls business, and a (not even social at all) personal life. And it really took it’s toll. I’d come home from a days work, only to have to do more work at home, and also get some quality hang time in with Hook, eat dinner, and attempt to get some sleep. It hasn’t been working very well. And because of that, my skin condition (for all those that want to know, it’s psoriasis) has gotten to an unbearable point. So, after a discussion with Hook and some number crunching, it was decided that I would leave my job now in order to get some time to relax and focus on my health before we get into the thick of wedding season.
This is definitely something that’s going to change almost everything currently going on in my life, which is going to take me a while to get my head around. But I’m pretty damn excited about how this adventure is going to play out!
My awesome mother, cuddling her sweet little dog Chloe. Chloe was away the last time I went to visit my parents so I missed out on cuddles with her then. Hopefully she’s around this weekend when I go back to Tauranga so I can get some quality time in with her. Hehe. She’s the closest thing I have to my own pet!
A while ago I was thinking about how there are no good paleo (gluten, dairy and sugar free) cafes around Auckland, and how disappointing it is when you go into a cafe and there’s like one gluten free option (which is always and orange and almond cake for some reason – not that I’m complaining cause those are delish, but still). About a week after I had been thinking about this something amazing popped up in my feed on Facebook. A little post about a new paleo store opening up called Wilder and Hunt. I was beyond excited. I instantly started following them – keeping up with their statuses about opening up their new small business adventure.
Although it’s been open for a little while now, I only just got to go there for the first time today with my gluten free pal, Jenna. And let me just say, there was no disappointment whatsoever. Far from it. The little store was crazy cute and the owner, Amy, was super duper lovely! Oh and the food? Well that was amazing!
I got the koko-mocha smoothie (kind of like a chocolate smoothie with a coffee kick) and it was DIVINE. Oh man. I could definitely have one of those every day. And I couldn’t help myself from getting a little bit of baked goods and had the banana and pecan loaf muffin for brunch. YUM.
I cannot wait to go back there. Amy let us have a little taste of a few of the other items as well and they were so good. I think the snickers slice and the pumpkin pie smoothie will be the next things on my list to try! Cannot wait to go back! It’s definitely going to become my regular go-to over the Summer!
Just wanted to leave a quick message to say that I’m about to jump on a plane right now to Melbourne (Australia) for a wee trip with my best friend Brit! Cannot wait. Will take as many photos as I can!
In the mean time, I wanted to leave you with a sneak peek of the dessert table from my cousin Tyler’s 21st birthday party! It was so fun helping her plan that out, and take the party photos. Just look at that amazing cake that Rachael from Made From Scratch made her! More to come from her party when I get back home…
Have a good week everybody!
I had almost completely forgotten that these photos existed. They were taken as test shots during our X Factor shoot. I only remembered them now because I was trying to find photos of my new shorter hair and stumbled across them. I always look so serious in test shoots. Or bored. Or angry. Haha. I don’t know why. I can never just take a nice photo for them.
Anyway… The point of me writing this post was to tell you that I’m off (extremely early I might add) tomorrow morning to Queenstown for the week. Super pumped for it! I have never been there before and from the looks of things, the scenery is STUNNING. We will be shooting a music video there for a few days and then spending an extra night there just to relax, do some non-work related sightseeing and maybe some skiing with Hook. It’s our mini holiday celebration for our 9 year anniversary that’s coming up mid-September. I hope to take a heap of photos to share with you all when I get back! Woo!
Last weekend Hook had to get a few bits of footage to compare his Blackmagic Cinema Camera and Blackmagic Pocket Camera so we headed out to Devonport to get some cool views of the city for them. The evening sun was gorgeous so I took a few snaps while he was setting up. The views were amazing. We don’t often venture over there, as we actually live right in the city – kinda behind those big crane-y giraffe looking things (I have no idea what these things are called haha) at the port to the left in that last photo. So it was nice to see the city from this angle. I love this place.
Miss that little face. Such a roller-coaster of emotions from her. Within seconds she can go from all smiles and giggles, to tears and confusion. Miss little wobbly pants. We probably all bombard her with cameras too much haha. She will have to get used to it! ;)
These were a few shots I got of Cam having a bit of cuddle time with Rosie before he left to move overseas. She is going to be so much bigger when he sees her again in person! She’s already standing up a lot now, and being very vocal. Just need to get her to say ‘da-nelle’ now. Shouldn’t be that hard right? She’s already got ‘da’ down from saying ‘dada’ I would assume, so hopefully it’s easy for her. :P
Anyway, just wanted you all to see a bit more of sweet Rosie (for any new followers, Rosie is my little sister). As I noticed this blog seemed to have a lot of baking on it haha. Must mix it up a little. Dogs, babies, baking, and repeat!
